Crafting bespoke sculptures is my passion and I take care in selecting the right materials for each one. I love to use UK wool, particularly rare breeds as the quality of the wool is fabulous. I think it's so important to adopt sustainable crafting practices. My approach is characterful and whimsical rather than taxidermy. I love to use wool in all of its forms, from fluff to yarn to weave!
My technique encompasses traditional practices like needle felting, wet felting, sculptural & hand embroidery, cloth doll making, knitting, and eco-printing. I frequently incorporate vintage objects into my artwork, as well as natural materials such as sustainably harvested wood and pressed flowers.
In this particular piece, you can see "Elsie" , based on a Herdwick sheep design that is constructed using needle felting techniques, hand knitting using beautiful yarn from Flock and Skein, and sculptural clay work. She stands on a 1960s wooden salad bowl. I think there is something really special about blending the old with the new.
"Isn’t Elsie just beautiful Sally, you are amazingly talented. It was my pleasure to be able to supply wool from the Flock & Skein collection of British Rare Breed Wool" Chris
